Rogers Golfers

Welcome to the Rogers High School Golf Team.  My name is Paul Appel and I am the Boys golf coach.  I look forward to a great season and I am here to help you enjoy your experience and work hard each day to help you reach your goals.  The following information that will give you a view of my coaching values, team goals and details of the golf program and what you will need to know to be ready for next season.

My core values as coaches are the following:

1) Respect for others

 2) Honesty

3) Work to the best of your abilities.

The program’s goals are to be better at the end of the season, then we were at the beginning and to enjoy our time together.

The following information packet will have details about clearance, tryouts, summer range sessions, the opportunity to join the Golf Team Remind and season information. Communication is a key to success, so with that in mind, I will do my best to let all know what is scheduled, changed or if things need to be taken care of.   If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at the above email address.

I am excited for this upcoming golf season.  I look forward to having the opportunity to help us grow as a team and golfers.  Enjoy the sun!

Aug. 25th at 4:00PM

Aug. 26th at 4:00PM (Final day of tryouts)

Aug. 27th at 4:00PM (Additional cuts if needed)

Here are some factors that are used to determine cuts;

Character -                         Is the player the kind of person we want to represent our

high school and our golf program?  Have they given us

reason to question their morality or integrity?

Academics -                      Is the golfer as committed to the classroom as they are

                                                on the golf course?

Talent -                                                Does the golfer possess special ability and athleticism?

Year in School -                               what role will the golfer play in the future?  Seniors

generally, will need to complete at the varsity level

Juniors need to fit in the program needs or be leaders on

junior varsity level.  Underclassman have certain

flexibility to be either varsity or junior varsity.

With those factors and taking the scoring averages of the golfer’s tryout rounds, this will then determine the members of the golf program.

General Information:

You need to have your own equipment (clubs, shoes, golf balls)

You will need to have your own transportation to and from the golf course every day

It is recommended, that you play and practice as much as possible during the summer to prepare for the try-outs and season

You must be academically eligible. Minimum GPA of 2.0 and no F's for the golf team

Weekly Practice Schedule:

Monday – Thursday and some Fridays (4:00to approximately 6:30) at Lake Spanaway GC.

Summer Opportunities:

The Rogers Golf Program would like to invite players interested in working on their skills over the summer to meet at Lake Spanaway driving range.  We will begin these sessions on June 12th and go until July 31st.

Each player that would like to participate must be cleared for summer participation.  If they played this year, they just need to pick up their Blue Card from Mr. Collins (assuming the physical is valid through July 31). If they’re an 8th grader, they must go online and complete a blue card. They also may have to bring Mr. Collins, a physical, if they didn’t play anything at the junior high this year.

On-line registration - https://puyallupschools.rankonesport.com

Lake Spanaway Junior Rates:

Lake Spanaway Golf Course has let it be known that their junior rates are $15.  This is a fantastic rate and it is important that the players get out and play as much as possible to be ready for tryouts and the season.

If you register for Youth on Course (https://youthoncourse.org/), the players will be able to play for $5
